Web Media Player: A new Player on the Block!

Web Media Player is a super cool media player that lets you play online streaming .mp4, .flv and .mp3 files from your desktop, in addition to all similar media files you might have stored in your local file system.

Web Media Player is built on AIR

The Web Media Player is completely built in Adobe® Flash® and ActionScript 3. The entire application is then ported as an Adobe® AIR™ application.

If you haven't yet heard: AIR is Adobe's new cross-operating system runtime that allows deployment of rich Internet applications to the desktop. Very cool stuff!

Visit Adobe Labs for more information, or to download the AIR Beta.

So this baby will run on all three major operating systems. You will even be able to synchronize your libraries between different systems running WMP, if that's your thing.

Milestones for Web Media Player

No definite release dates have been set so far reagarding Web Media Player 1.0. Development is currently a weekend-only occurrence, but we have plans to step up the pace a notch or two, once the Web Media Player Alpha is out.

Web Media Player Dev Team

The project of making a new FLV Player was started by Norwegian Flash Developer Øystein Wika, who also manages the current design and development process of the upcoming Web Media Player alpha release.
